Prices are skyrocketing on these, to think I missed out on a ‘89 LWB with a 300Tdi/Lt230/R380 conversion that sold for $12k... :’(

define sky rocketing? I want a RR classic and have been holding out for the right deal to work needed ratio.

Skyrocketing, like, get on now before fully restored ones reach six figures on the reg.

Yup. Only way to get a good deal on these now is through someone into Rovers who will give you an actually fair price on one that needs work or someone who doesn’t know what they have.

$15-$20k for rust free ones. I’m starting to see rust bubbles in wheel wells in the photos for $8-$12k ones. If the wheel wells are starting to go, you’re definitely going to need to be pulling up the back carpet to check for rot. This saddens me as I don’t have time for a project RRC, with the IIa and house stuff keeping me busy there isn’t much room time wise :(.

Yeah, I’ve been getting the sense that the time to get one was *yesterday*. On the other hand, once they hit a certain point they may come in check, because there’s no reason for established Defender importing networks to not import Rangies as well...

Or you could join me and Fritch in our terrible, awful, no good, very bad idea to get a Matra Rancho and put it on a tube frame with Quattro internals...

Yep, the one I missed out on was from a guy in Portland Oregon who has a shop. Cloth interior, hunter green with 300 Tdi, LT230 and R380. I’d go to my grave knowing I lived a full and happy life if that was my DD lol.

Also speaking of which, I saw some lot up in Michigan selling a climate controlled garage kept 94 LWB with 87k miles for $6000. It was literally sold the next day. Some lucky SOB made out like a bandit lol.

I know what a $500 LWB looks like. Knowing that that was more like a $10,000 LWB, I can barely imagine how nice that would be.

We have an event every fall called the all British field meet, basically just a huge show for British cars and motorcycles. He used to (or maybe still does, I haven’t been able to go for a few years) bring out a few of his built trucks, usually series and old rangies, and give rides to people on a modified motocross track. Lots of fun, even if you’ve done “real” off roading before. The kids especially love it. Super cool guy.
